In the early hours of Monday, 4th of November 2019, when students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso are expected to resume back to school, some gates leading to the university campus remained under lock and key.
Though, students were able to gain entrance to the school campus through the pedestrian gate at under G, the big gate remain locked thereby restricting the movement of car into the school campus through that gate. However, the school’s main gate via Ilorin road was opened, UCJ LAUTECH learnt that the closure was due to the decision of the Non Academic Staff Union, LAUTECH.
The Union has been showing their displeasure towards the non payment of their outstanding salaries by locking the gate throughout the vacation period but today, their action showed they are not ready to go down easy on the governments.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Azeem Ige, while reacting to this development told our correspondent that the school gate will soon be reopened as soon as the Union are done with the meeting that was currently underway.
He assured UCJ LAUTECH that the gate would be opened for normal school activities to begin as plans are in motion by those concerned to see that the demands of the Union are met.
“the commissioner for education of Oyo state had had a meeting with the Union and he had appealed to them, therefore the gate is likely to be opened” the Dean said.
However, Fresh students were unable to start verification of results which was scheduled to kick start today due to the meeting of the Union that has also been scheduled to take place at the same time.
