Victor Odekunbi
Introduction
My name is Olapade Kofoworola Sarah, a 400 level student from the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science, Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics. I am undertaking my IT at the National Bureau of Statistics, Ikolaba, Ibadan, Oyo State.
How did you get there, and what work do you do? Was it easy getting placement there? Suggest other places where people in your department can train.
I got to know about the National Bureau of Statistics(NBS) through a friend, then I made a wide research on the office online to know more about the bureau.
What we do at NBS is to collect, analyse and publish information relating to commercial, industrial and agricultural activities and also the condition of inhabitants of Nigeria.
It was quite easy for me to get a placement there, and this was because I got in touch with the State Officer and he gave me an appointment to see him directly. NBS don’t pay IT student though.
Other places my departmental mates can train are Banks, Airports, Companies, Schools, and a lot more.
What is the most interesting thing about your place of work?
The interesting thing about my placement is that every activity at the office is purely practical which has satisfied the main objective of the industrial training.
What was the first shocking experience you had at your place of work?
The first shock I got there was getting to go to the field for surveys. We go to markets to get the price of goods and services, visit some areas at the local government level to locate, demarcate, number and carry out a survey.
What are the challenges you face every day at your place of work?
The only challenge I face is going to the field – either market or a certain area.
What have you learned other than things related to academics?
Aside from academics, in my few days at the bureau, I have learnt how to relate with my colleagues at the office and how to manage people and their different temperaments. I have also learnt a lot of skills from my supervisors that can put me ahead in the course of my career.
From your brief experience, which is easier? Work or School?
For me, school is easier, because at work, you have responsibilities. While in school, I can decide not to go for an 8 am class, here I won’t want to be a minute late to the office.
Has your IT program contributed to your academic and personal life?
My IT program has contributed so much to my life. Presently I see myself doing great in my career after school because I now have a better understanding of my course of study.
Oya gist us🤗🤗(tell us random things)
Lemme gist you about myself🥰, I’m Kofoworola by name with a nickname God’s bride. I’m a believer and a beautician😊. Anything beauty is what gives me joy, while doing it I am fulfilled. I’m reserved and friendly. The most interesting thing about me is that I don’t make friends but if I care about you then I really do care😁.
