Introduction
I am Adekunle Oluwatosin Ibrahim [Ààre], a 400L student of the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry. I am currently undertaking my internship at the Central University Research Laboratory, LAUTECH.
How did you get there, and what work do you do? Was it easy getting placement there? Suggest other places where people in your department can train.
I got to know about CURL LAUTECH thanks to a professor in my dept. We were there for an excursion the previous semester, and I ceased the chance to enquire about possible placement and now I’m here.
We conduct various tests and analysis ranging from common laboratory tests to the advanced ones. Nucleic acid purity checks, drug identification, bacterial culturing, soil analysis, and gene therapy to mention a few. We use sophisticated equipments such us as the UV spectrometer, AAS,GC etc.
It wasn’t easy getting placement there. In fact it got to a point I had to seek for placement elsewhere and was considered. But I’m tough skinned so I didn’t give up. I applied again and this time, they didn’t say No.
Chemistry students can seek placements in pharmaceutical industries, water plants, hospitals , laboratories , plastic industries, soaps and detergent industries, etc.
What was the first shock you experience?
I’d say my first shock was getting to see even more sophisticated equipments than what I saw during my first visit(excursion)there. I never imagined such equipment even exist.
What is the most interesting thing about your place of work?
The conducive environment. Goodness! Getting to work under such amazing condition is really really interesting. Also the world-class knowledge being passed can’t be compared to another.

What challenges do you face every day since you started your IT?
The CURL is situated in a remote part of the school environ ( around school farm area beside the new CSE dept building), so the mobility from home to work is a bit challenging. But the challenge is negligible compared to what I stand to gain.
What have you learned other than things related to academics?
Asides from academics, its making money from academics!!
From your brief experience, which is easier? Work or School?
