LAUTECH Engineering Students Emerge 2nd at the 2021 Mega Engineering Week Inter-school Competition

On August 26, 2021, two LAUTECH Engineering students represented the Institution at the Mega Engineering Week Inter-school Competition. They emerged second among ten other institutions invited for the innovative competition.

The competition was organized by The Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE), Ibadan branch, as a part of the Engineering Week. It took place at the University of Ibadan with the theme– Need-drive Engineering Solutions to Local Challenges.

According to the brief, the competition was organized to improve the culture of working together to understand and solve problems as the organization believes that it is a way to build students’ skillset. It was also to solve local challenges using depth analysis of local challenges to proffer lasting solutions.

Of the ten tertiary institutions across Oyo State invited to compete, four presented their solutions at the event – The University of Ibadan, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, First Technical University and Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic.

The LAUTECH team, Oyewo Taoheed, a 400L student of Mechanical Engineering and Akinyemi Gbolahan, a 400L student of Chemical Engineering presented a solution based on an improved biomass cookstove.

Each team was given ten minutes to present and three minutes to answer all questions.

In the long run, the LAUTECH team came second with 310 of 400 points, following the University of Ibadan which has 353/400 points and preceding the First Technical University which has 269/400 points.

The solutions were judged based on their uniqueness, relevance, presentation style, originality, and impact.

Other members of the LAUTECH team who helped with putting together the solution are; Ojo Precious, Ibrahim Toba, Sanusi Bolaji, Folorunso Favour, Aiyedun Rasheed, Giwa Ibrahim, Akintola Muizz, Adegboyega Taofeek, Atolagbe Ridwan, Folorunso Emmanuel, Ayanwole Emmanuel, Bello Idris.

NSE, Ibadan awarded the first position with a prize of N50000, the second position with N30000 and the third position with N20000.

Team members from the University of Ibadan and LAUTECH being the first and second were also invited for the dinner and prize presentation session that took place on Saturday at Jogor Centre, Ibadan.
