A change of government is about to take place as preparations to elect new executives into office has reached a realistic height.
The SUG election for the change of student union executives will come up next week, the Director of Student Affairs told UCJ.
While he said that the date for the central executive has not been fixed yet, he added that the election at the faculty level would take place on Tuesday, the 20th and Wednesday 21st of August 2019.
According to the Dean, this election would mark a new dawn in the Lautech Student Union as initiatives that would foster the development of students have been brought into place.
In his words: “Student Union is not politics, its purpose is to serve the general student body.” He said this is why some new criteria like the 3.5 CGPA benchmark has been set, to allow student intellectuals take up the mantra of leadership of the union.
Furthermore, only 200 and 300 levels students are eligible to contest in the election. However, the form has been made free to release the constraints the election form fee might put on students who are willing to contest.
He said, “unlike before when the election form is being sold for #20,000 to #25,000, it is now made free to avoid additional financial stress that interested student could go through after paying their tuition.
According to him, the election is to be done remotely online by each student through their portals.
