The maiden edition of LAUTECH’s 5km marathon race was inaugurated on the 1st of August, 2019. The Athletic Community of LAUTECH organized the competition, which was a first. It was organized to promote sportsmanship amongst students of the institution, and also to improve healthy lifestyle and discover talents for the athletic world.
The event which saw quite a number of registered participants which included two females, started by 7 am at Ansarudeen Mosque, Ogbomosho. The athletes raced through Stadium to Alumni Park and Under-G gate with Dairo John, 500level student of Civil Engineering taking the first position. Akinlade Frances of 400l Pure and Applied Biology, Ezekiel Adetoba, Oyetunde John and Lawal Temitayo took he positions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th runner ups respectively. Only a female, Fatai Oluwatosin a 400 level student of APH made it to the end.
Medals were presented to the winner and runner ups by the CEO of ABM fitness while trainers were given to them by the planning committee chairman in person Of Oyedele Hammed( Giladino). The chairman revealed that Jayesimi Goke donated the trainers.One of the athletes who was a runner up in the race, Akinlade Frances popularly known as Kenya man in an interview with a member of UCJ, LAUTECH said he didn’t feel too bad neither doesn’t feel too good as it is a competition and every athlete aims to win. He further went ahead to say that he was glad that he was among the runner ups.
