Kidnappers of Opadele Racheal, a final year student of the department of Fine and Applied Arts, LAUTECH who was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen have demanded ransom for her release.

Rachel was kidnapped from her workplace —Tana’s lounge, restaurant, bar and club, Abba — alongside the hotelier, Oluwagbemiga Owolabi, on the 29 of July, where she was said to be working due to the ongoing ASUU strike that has left many students idle.

According to Rachel’s friend who chose to remain anonymous, Rachael’s kidnappers have demanded a ransom.

“Different vehicles were seen entering Abaa that day, several gunshots were heard which scared people and they kidnapped her at the hotel she works even though few people were around. The update now is, they are demanding 25 million naira (sic)” He  stated.

Other reports however revealed that the abductors asked for a ransom of N100m to secure the release of the hotelier and his worker.

The LAUTECH Student Union Government has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Oyo State Government, Security Operatives in the country, the traditional  rulers, and the Management of LAUTECH to do their best to save Rachael from the hands of the unknown gunmen.

The SUG President also implored  the government to find a lasting solution to the incessant kidnaps going on in the country.

“How much longer should we continue to bow to the wanton sacrilege meted out by these marauding villains called kidnappers? The Presidency has to bring forth the most effective and lasting solutions to these societal ills before the situation degenerates into an intractable phase. The time is now, and it is now or never for the Presidency to pursue the much-needed counter-kidnapping operation.”

“We can no longer walk or move freely, sleep conveniently, travel, or do anything without fear of being abducted or kidnapped, robbed, raped, or maimed within or outside our University Community.” He further stated.
