Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsApp

Miss Shittu Rainah is a friend. She crossed from the Department of Pure and Applied Biology in her 200level to the Department of Food Science and Engineering. She’s currently undergoing IT.

Brief Introduction
My name is Shittu Rainah. I am a 400Level student of Food Science and Engineering LAUTECH. I’m on IT at Sweetco Foods Limited.

How did you get there, and what works do you do? Suggest other places where people in your department can train
I got there through the usual way (smirk). We deal with Quality Control, Processing Operation, and Workshop repair of machines. A Food Science Engineer can work with companies like Zartech, Flour mill, and Nigerian Breweries, so IT can take place there.

Interesting things about this place
On getting to my IT placement, I was just amazed at everything. It’s awesome getting to know the practical application of my course, and the importance of those long hours of lectures we do receive while in school.

What are the challenges you face every day since you started your IT?
The air-conditioning here is something else o. Also, the long walk from one processing plant to another is kinda stressful and annoying; I broke down barely two weeks of resumption.

What have you learned apart from academics?
Other than academics, I have dived into the world of networking- mingling with a new set of people and tolerance. Also, someone runs a snacks business close to where I reside, and I help occasionally. So, I have learned how to make egg buns and small yummy snacks.

From your experience, which is easier? Work or School?Nothing is easy, both are kind of stressful, but I can choose work because I don’t have to worry about exams and assignments, but at times work can be stressful too.

Has your IT program contributed to your academic and personal life?

Industrial training has contributed positively to me. Let me say for now; I am proud I’m on IT. It has made me envision things beyond the four walls of LAUTECH, my eye don open.
To my personal life, it has boosted my interpersonal relationship with people. I know what it takes to leave one’s comfort zone to pursue a greener pasture.

Oya random gist o

There’s this girl I met here, she too dey form efyco (like person wey sabi book)
The first time we got to talk she was like, ‘Do you know how to detect a fault in sweet, bla, bla?’ I said no, then she put me through.
The funniest thing she did was when I went to check the temperature and relative humidity we were working with, and she wrote the SI unit on her hand for me to see. I was really surprised o, am I that dumb that I won’t know that temperature is in degrees Celsius and Kelvin? I just avoided trouble sha, no be her fault….if not for LAUTECH….if my calculation is correct, then she should probably be in year one when I was due for IT normally.

Other interesting events have taken place o…My IT experience no for here at all…Other Ladokites and I here have been proving we are Ladokites sha.
