The Joint Action Committee of SSANU, NASU and NAAT LAUTECH Branch has concluded to go on an industrial strike till their demands are met. This decision was taken during the General Congress by the union on Wednesday, July 14, 2021.
Consequently, the 100 level students’ test that was ongoing has been suspended indefinitely. This is because the NASU oversees the CBT Tests.
Many of the 100 level students who were not aware of the strike visited their respective centres, but were not able to do the test.
In a statement by the JAC secretary LAUTECH Branch, Comrade Owolabi O.J wrote:
“The Congress upheld and adopt the JAC letter to the management of Monday, July 12, 2021, containing the demands for the payment of all outstanding 5months salaries, payment of the promotion arrears from 2012 to date, payment of the Earned Allowances from 2012/2013 to date, payment of 10 months cooperative deductions and implementation of New Minimum Wage”
“The Congress further resolved to immediately commence its earlier suspended Industrial action, if the University Management failed to meet with the demand of the JAC as contained in our letter of July 12, 2021, by 11:59 p.m of Wednesday, July 14, 2021.”
“The Congress therein agreed that all its members should converge by 8: a.m on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the front of the Senate Building.”
The union directed all its members not to open offices and laboratories from Thursday, July 15, 2021, until further notice.
“The Congress furthermore resolved and direct the total withdrawal of the services of all its members in all units of the University such as Health Centre, LICTC, LODL, PDS, PGS, Works Department (i.e. Drivers) etc. until further notice.”
“Lastly, JAC implore the University Management to be a partner in progress in the smooth running of the University and not undermining and taken the spirited efforts of the unions for granted.”
