Research has shown that learning environments play a crucial role in student success. Also, that one of the best ways to learn easily and assimilate faster is to be comfortable in a positive environment. For the newly admitted students of LAUTECH, and even staylites, this they have been struggling with.
For a while now, anyone inquisitive and conversant with their environment will note that even though the 100 level lecture halls are always filled, you will find numerous students outside. The first assumption on approaching these students is usually that they are unserious and therefore while away time outside. However, a close-up conversation revealed otherwise.
For this article, some 100 level students were interviewed and it was a popular opinion that the seats in the hall are one of the major reasons this is happening. Many are not comfortable staying in a fully-packed hall. For some others, they mentioned that their health condition does not allow such, and others do not bother staying inside as they barely hear a thing. For whatever reason, it all boils down to the fact that the ratio of students to lecture theatres in the school is very improper.
Even students in other levels are not left out of the struggle. Usually, the lecture halls are not enough to accommodate only the undergraduate. Now with Open Distance Learning (ODL) students in the school, matters have become worse.
When they are around for their program, it often affects the undergraduate students as lecture halls become less available causing undergraduates to cancel more classes.
Invariably, affecting their ability to cover the semester’s work.
