Nafisat Adeagbo
This week’s subject is Odetola Nafisat,The Vice-chairman of LAUTECH Students’ Union Executive Caretaker Committee who graduated with a first class degree, the first of its kind in the Faculty of Nursing Science.
Who is Nafisat?
Nafisat Olajumoke Odetola is a fresh graduate of the Faculty of Nursing Science, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. I hail from Gbongan, Osun state but I live in Oyo, Oyo state. I am also the first in a family of eight.
Congratulations on your induction as a certified Nurse. How do you feel being the first first class student in The Faculty of Nursing in LAUTECH?
Thank you. I feel really fulfilled. I have always prayed and worked towards breaking that record right from the moment I heard that no first class student has ever been produced. I didn’t even care about the prize, I was just keen on breaking the record.
What do you do aside from academics?
I do nothing aside from academics. I don’t know why I always feel I’m not cut out for anything except academics. I tried learning fashion designing at some point during the 9-month ASUU strike, but it didn’t work. I also tried selling some stuff too, but none worked.
How were you able to balance being the VP of the student union body with school?
Being the VP required me traveling down from Osogbo to Ogbomoso anytime we had something to do. I travelled down a couple of times to make sure I was present but the chairman, Olabiyi Olamide Anthony was really an active and amazing leader who bridged the gap of my absence effortlessly.
How were you able to achieve a first class even when there’s been no past record of that in the Faculty?
It took the grace of God for me to do it. Anytime we collect our results, I was always calculating the GP I need next to still remain in distinction. In 400 Level second semester, my CGPA dropped to 4.49. I had to sit well and calculate whatever GP I needed in 500level first and second semester to get back to first class.
What’s your greatest moment as a Ladokite?
My greatest moment as a Ladokite was when LAUTECH was named the best state university in Nigeria.
If you were to give advice to Ladokites, what would it be?
Prayers, hard work and consistency is key in whatever you do.
