Much is often heard and said about the general state of the nation’s health care, and from it we can easily all agree that the sector is heading down a dark abyss with little hope of resuscitation. But should we all fold our hands and let precious lives be lost as the life of a student of Pure and Applied Sciences was lost last month?
According to multiple sources, a student who got injured during a fall at his hostel was rushed to the teaching hospital, and hospital staff allegedly made certain demands which could not be met. This led to a delay in his treatment and eventually, the student’s death.
A protest was held at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital to express displeasure at the turn out of events, and the hospital was subsequently closed temporarily. Yes, much can be made out of the mess but this could all have been avoided if the student’s life was prioritized.
There is a need for the school to pay closer attention to the institution’s health care. Many students have tales to tell of their time at the school’s health center and even the teaching hospital. So, the school management needs to have all issues pertaining to the students’ welfare under their belt because every students’ life is important. An eventual chaos that might ensue because of the continued nonchalance may be one the school wouldn’t be able to contain.
