A friend once mentioned that LAUTECH students love ceremonies and celebrations. I pondered on this statement well enough to see the half-truth that it holds.
Yes, LAUTECH students love celebrations, but that is quite different from the students’ social life. Students are ceremonial because completing a five-year course with extra two years is no easy feat; it calls for a ceremony. So they go all out to celebrate loudly. However, the same cannot be said of social life.
Nonetheless, the CABE Award is here at a perfect time. Aside from the fact that it’s a social event, it will help reshape people’s mindset about LAUTECH. It will renounce the narrative that Ladokites are fraudsters who involve themselves in illegal businesses, prostitution, and hooliganism. We are intellects with socio-economic and political uprightness to positively impact Ogbomoso and our society at large.
I was able to interview 2 of the nominees of the CABE Award. They were pretty excited about the new development in the area of socio-academics activities in LAUTECH. They see it not as a metric to judge people’s intelligence but as a metric to motivate students to get better at whatever they do because people are watching.
“You might not notice, but when your service is needed, someone will mention your name at the table.”
The Now Sounds Friday is another social outlet that is rapidly changing the narrative of LAUTECH’s social life and showcasing the diverse creativity the institution is breeding.
