Poor toilet facilities on campus is one of the issues that require the urgent attention of the school management amidst others.
LAUTECH students have lacked basic amenities for years. Some alumni of the institution can never boast of enjoying the toilet facilities on campus throughout their stay and this apply to the students as well. When the toilets are not under lock, they have to go miles in search of water to use the toilet.
On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, the Students’ Union Government issued a notice to the school management requesting that the present state of toilets on campus be addressed immediately. The mail sent by the SUG contains an illustration of a man called Master Timothy, who had to defecate in a bush around the school due to poor facilities of toilets on campus.
The LSUG met with the Physical Planning Unit Chairman, who said they’ve requested all the toilets to be opened but till now they are still locked.
The Union of Campus Journalists moved around this week to check out the state of the toilet facilities on campus. The toilets opened were the Faculty of Agric toilet and Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences toilet, which lacks water supply although storex tanks are available coupled with the presence of power supply on campus.
Toilets in lecture theatres are not left out as well. 1200LT and management lecture theatre toilet has been under lock for years now and still remains locked when we visited. This has make students result to open defeacation (while those that do not have to go to their hostels thereby missing classes and tests) which explains the unpleasant smell that was perceived behind the lecture theatres. The only toilet running effectively is the one near the Open Distance and Learning Centre.
We will like to urge the school management to treat this as an important issue so that necessary actions can be taken soon as it is a basic amenity that students are entitled to.
