My name is Olakunle Irantiola, co-founder and software engineer at Clartt Technology Limited.
Can you give a brief of Clartt?
Clartt is a new payment platform that enables businesses receive payment with ease. Clartt provides tools for businesses to have a relationship with their customers, and also help businesses grow by tracking their sales and transaction metrics.
It also eases you of the stress of walking with debit cards or cash. Once you’ve added your cards on the platform, you can purchase goods, and make seamless payment at any store or shop accepting Clartt payment.
What prompted your starting?
Clartt was co-founded by Oluwapelumi Adewuyi and Olakunle Irantiola.
We met July 2018. Then we discovered we had same vision of making payment of goods and services as seamless as possible. Pelumi, who happens to be a business developer had always wanted to initiate a payment system but couldn’t execute it alone since he isn’t a software developer. I, on the other end happen to be a software developer and have always wanted to develop a system that eases money transactions. We have had lots of experiences with the bad payment for goods, having to go withdraw cash first, then going to a point of payment, and getting there, no balance. Another one is making transfers from banks The bank apps takes forever to open, takes forever to complete a simple transaction. Another option of POS, we get lot of issues with POS like bank network and slow response too, or probably double charges. Plus, we have to go through the stress of filling forms in banks to reverse the doubled value. That can be a hell of stress just to get something as low as 500 naira.
Again, we discovered businesses, both individual and registered businesses don’t have a full business-customer relationship, they have difficulty in analysing their sales and transactions per time. This has been a serious issue we noticed.
So, on August 2018, we decided to build a platform that will increase the speed of payment, in a seamless way and with users in mind. So users don’t need to go to any ATM to withdraw cash, or have issues of balance to receive or network issues that causes double charges. We also developed mobile tools for businesses to grow their business by tracking their sales metrics and having a better business to customer relatioship.
How many people are on the team?
We currently have 5 people on the team.
What obstacles have you faced so far?
Lack of funds.
Lack of workforce who believe in the vision too.
We overcame that by overworking ourselves just to assure we get a result. It took us 19 months to build Clartt.
What’s your unique selling point and why should people choose you?
Our unique selling point is the scan to pay feature which offers a faster means of payment. And we are business focused, meaning we mainly help businesses to receive payments and also help them grow by providing tools to make them track their sales and transaction metrics.
The reason people should choose us is that, we provide the fastest and really seamless way to make payment. For businesses, they can track all sales and understand how their business operates to help them grow.
What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?
We plan to become the Alipay of Africa. Making Clartt available all over Africa for people to make swift and seamless payment on the go.
Other things to add?
One last thing I want to add is that. Why do I have to go to withdraw money first before spending, and this businesses will still have to go deposit this cash in the bank? Why do I have to hold my debit card(s) always when I can just use my smart phone? Bank transfers/POS take more time to make a transaction. These are part of the reasons we developed Clartt.
Also, the CBN is trying to enhance cashless policy. So we are using that as a plus to make it available for all.
Once you have an account with Clartt, and you have already added your debit card(s), you make payment in just 3 steps which is so swift.
