Members of the LAUTECH Sports team are set to leave for Ibadan today. They will join their counterparts for the preliminary rounds of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) games. This year’s NUGA game will hold at the University of Lagos, however, the University of Ibadan will host the ZONE B preliminaries of the Pre-NUGA games.
Students from LAUTECH, Lead City University, First Technical University, Bowen University and the host, University of Ibadan are expected to participate in the games, of which only one tertiary institution will qualify for the NUGA games which will hold later in March.
Earlier on Monday, Professor Ajao, LAUTECH’s Sports Council Chairman and Mrs Olaosebikan visited the athlete at the sports centre to motivate and assure them of the university’s support.
“The Football Team will be leaving tomorrow Tuesday for Ibadan, so they can get ready for the coming games while the other sports team will join on Wednesday”, Professor Ajao related.
He further reiterates the support of the university towards a successful outing for the athletes.
Athletes from the handball, football, badminton, taekwondo, judo, and basketball amongst others will represent the institution at the Pre-NUGA games.
In preparation, athletes have since begun their camping on January 20, and are optimistic about the games.
While speaking to our correspondent, the captain for the handball team mentioned that they are very confident in their team to edge other teams to play in the Lagos NUGA.
